Picnic in the Snow

A winter story painted in watercolor, flowing with the warm hues of memory.

 A Quick Peek

Handed down from a mother’s mother, this tale follows animal friends on a snowy winter’s-night picnic.

With every small kindness sparking a quiet miracle, the story unfolds into a tender landscape where even the coldest days are warmed by friendship.

This book was a unique exploration of restraint and flow.

Inspired by East Asian ink wash painting, I focused on brush texture and minimal color to express mood and stillness.
It was an opportunity to tell a quiet story with poetic visual rhythm.

 Author’s Note

Picnic in the Snow began with a quiet memory from my childhood — one that lingers like the taste of ripe persimmons in winter air.

After harvest, my mother would leave a few fruits behind on the tree.“They’re for the others,” she’d say—squirrels, deer, raccoons, even small bugs—those who still need something sweet when the snow begins to fall.

Dana, the little girl in the story, learns—as I once did—that sharing often begins with the smallest gesture, left behind with kindness.
